General Information

Pursuant to NRS 450B.238 and NAC 450B.768, the Nevada Trauma Registry (NTR) was established in 1987 to collect data on individuals who sustain physical injuries—whether blunt or penetrating—resulting from accidents or acts of violence. The NTR receives data from all licensed acute care hospitals and trauma centers throughout Nevada.

According to National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) criteria, an injury is reportable as a trauma case when it includes at least one qualifying ICD10 code within the following ranges: S00S99 (with 7th character modifiers A, B, or C), T07, T14, T20T28 (with 7th character modifier A), T30T32, or T79.A1T79.A9 (with 7th character modifier A). In addition, the patient must meet at least one of the following conditions:

• Admission to a healthcare facility

• Death following evaluation or treatment

• Transferred into or out of a healthcare facility

The NTR uses the American College of Surgeons’ National Trauma Registry (NTRACS) software to collect, store, and report data on traumatic injuries in Nevada. The system captures a wide range of information, including (but not limited to) the circumstances of the injury, injury severity, location of occurrence, length of hospital stay, patient diagnoses, discharge disposition, and payer source.

The NTR provides comprehensive data on the incidence, prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of injuries across Nevada. These data can be stratified by county, hospital, race, age group, and other demographic or geographic factors. Information from the NTR is available to state, federal, and private organizations—as well as grant applicants—to help assess the impact of trauma in Nevada and to support the development of targeted health education and injuryprevention programs.
