Substance Use in Nevada

What is a Substance Use Disorder?

Substance Use Disorder is a chronic disease that modifies the chemistry of the brain. This disorder can manifest after the use of different substances, including alcohol, opioids and other drugs. Substance use disorder can range from mild to severe and can significantly affect the day-to-day lives of individuals with a substance use disorder.

Why It Matters

DPBH combats substance use disorder through supporting three key pillars: prevention, treatment and recovery. When our partners stop substance use disorders before they happen, supply prompt and effective treatment and ensure that Nevadans in recovery have access to the appropriate support, all Nevadans benefit. This work prevents deaths from overdoses, connects workplaces with enthusiastic candidates in recovery and makes sure that Nevadans across the state live their best possible lives.
