About the Nevada EMS Program

The Nevada Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program, under the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), oversees the state's EMS system to ensure high-quality prehospital care, regulatory compliance, and workforce development. The program manages certification and licensure for Paramedics, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), and Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs) through the State Online Application Portal (SOAP), conducts background checks, and enforces compliance with state and national standards.

It regulates and inspects ground and air ambulance services, nonemergency secure behavioral health transport services, approves, and audits EMS training and continuing education programs, administers National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exams as an authorized Person Vue mobile testing center, and ensures radio and communication compliance on the Nevada Shared Radio System. EMS data collection supports policy decisions, with reports submitted to state agencies and the National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS).

The program supports emergency preparedness and disaster response, staffing the Emergency Operations Center (ESF-8 desk) and collaborating with public safety agencies. It also manages Nevada's trauma care system, Stroke/STEMI programs, and advance directives like Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) orders and Provider Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST).

Nevada participates in the Recognition of EMS Personnel Licensure Interstate Compact (REPLICA), allowing EMS professionals to operate across state lines. The program also enforces policy changes, investigates complaints, and supports the EMS Advisory and EMS for Children Committees. Additionally, it provides mental health resources for Public Safety Personnel through the Nevada Peer Support Network.

Through these efforts, Nevada EMS ensures high-quality emergency care while enhancing the safety and health for all Nevadans and its visitors.

EMS COMPACT- Effective October 1, 2023

The EMS Compact facilitates the day-to-day movement of EMS personnel across state boundaries in the performance of their duties. EMS personnel, including EMTs and Paramedics, licensed in a compact member state are granted a Privilege to Practice in the other compact member states. The EMS Compact is a legal agreement between states, enacted by state legislation in over 20 states.
